Multi-purpose General Learning Building

Year:

2021

The new Waterford building at Shalom College opened for the start of the 2021 school year. Designed to support project-based learning, the two-storey building features fourteen classrooms that are directly connected to both indoor and outdoor breakout learning spaces. Internally operable glass divisions allow acoustic separation, supervision, and access to natural light and cross ventilation.

In addition to this, in the centre of the building is an open tiered learning area, where the flexibility of the space allows both large groups to assemble or small groups to work together on projects on each tier. The open tiered learning area allows strong connections between the two levels, with the mezzanine of the second level featuring open views into the level below. This not only provides openness throughout the building to maintain project collaboration, but also provides passive supervision of spaces and student safety.
